CONIFER ESSENTIAL OILS

Coniferous essential oils are distilled typically from trees that produce cones, therefore their aromas are woody, piney and earthy. Conifer essential oils are both calming and invigorating. In Aromatherapy they are used to stimulate a tired mind and soothe a tense body. Examples of coniferous essential oils are Black Spruce, White Spruce and White Fir.

FIR

Fir, like most conifer oils, is invigorating, with its warming, refreshing notes of pinenes. These compounds increase energy metabolism due to their stimulating properties. Conifer oils are usually hyper-tensers and extremely effective in cases of fatigue, nervous exhaustion and stress. Their straight-forward energy brings confidence and courage. On a physical level they can be incredibly useful in a muscle rub blend after exercise, and also for inhalation.

PINE

Pine has a fresh, forestal, slightly pungent note which is typical of the pine needle oils of the conifer family. These extremely versatile oils represent the oldest aromatic energy on earth and are mainly linked to the oxygenation of our planet. Pine Essential Oils in general are wonderful supporters of the respiratory system and are grounding.

SPRUCE

Although similar to pine, the smell of spruce is darker, earthier, and more complex.
All conifer oils are used to treat lung problems, but spruce has a special affinity for phlegm in the lungs.

JUNIPER

Juniper is known for its anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, decongestant, analgesic, diuretic, anti-infectious, and astringent qualities.

CEDARWOOD

The name cedar comes from the Arabic word “kedron” which means power. Solomon’s Temple was built with cedar, and the oil is mentioned numerous times in the Bible.

True cedarwood has a warm scent that can serve as an antidepressant and aphrodisiac. Like other conifers, cedar addresses lung congestion, but also assists with congestion in the lower body, such as heavy periods, an inflamed and irritable bowel, and an enlarged prostate. Often applied topically, cedarwood oil is used for skin infections, cellulite, and dandruff.
